An Odyssey is an epic journey or adventure; this composition came from the idea of a distinct theme or melody being taken on a journey musically. Odyssey begins with a passage which is tonal and stable, establishing a simple musical theme. As the music progresses the theme becomes more harmonically unstable. There is an intense sense of development as the theme is constantly reiterated in various forms; the momentum rarely diminishes until the mysterious concluding section. Odyssey was written for and performed by the Carducci Quartet.
